A creative coding data project

Have you ever walked past a manhole and wondered if it was a portal, and if so — what is the risk?

Well, now you can use the streets of Salem, Oregon as your writing prompts, your poetic inspiration, your RPG infrastructure, or whatever creative ways you see fit.

I modified the City of Salem storm manhole dataset to contain a codename, portal destination, and risk level. You can play with a map and view the website at porthales.art (I embedded the website in a CodePen below as well).

This was a 1-day project in which I was hoping to create something to support community creativity. By community I mean Salem, but also the broader writing and creatives that love to play with such things. If you engage with this content, please share! I plan to use the #porthales.
